Welcome to Fry/Straka
Worldwide Reach | Environmental Focus | Award-Winning Designs | Creative Distinction
Golf Course Architects Dana Fry and Jason Straka formed Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design in 2012, but they’ve been working together for the better part of 30 years. This partnership, inclusive of expert in-house staff and a worldwide network of trusted partners, seeks to serve clients who recognize tradition, environmental stewardship and cutting-edge technical prowess not as obligations, but as reliable, strategic, fruitful, honorable paths to opportunity, to creative distinction and market leadership. It helps that Dana and Jason thoroughly enjoy what they do. They love being on site with clients, maximizing the golfing potential and natural gifts of each and every project. These core beliefs enable Fry/Straka to deliver first-class service and a diversity of award-winning golf course designs time and time again, regardless of terrain, climate or budget.
Please take a moment to browse the information and photography here. Testimonials
-
“For Fry, every new golf course design is more of a masterpiece than the one he previously completed. Every project explores new territory, and Fry gives each one so much personal attention that is always spectacular, fresh, and often trend-setting.”
Gaylene Salomons, Naples Illustrated
-
"What hasn’t changed since day one is Straka’s focus on the environment. Seemingly every design firm talks the talk, but Straka has walked the walk since the 1990s."
Joe Passov, Sports Illustrated
-
"Erin Hills is the Field of Dreams for golf. The vision of the designers was incredible."
Mike Whan, CEO USGA
-
"It’s still hard for me to understand how Dana’s conceptual vision works, how he can see what can happen to a golf hole before the earthwork even begins. It’s sort of amazing."
Hal Phillips, Golf Course Industry
-
"Not only is the golf course stunning, but every type of player also walks away with a ‘wow, this is a beautiful golf course’. Architects Dana and Jason listened to our members and delivered beyond anything that we imagined."
Bill Langley, General Manager, The Club at Quail Ridge
-
"Every golf-course design project undertaken by Fry/ Straka Global Golf Course Design assumes a position of great importance, as evidenced by the level of attention bestowed on each one."
Asian Club Business
-
"Over the last two decades, Jason Straka has been considered a leading global authority on sustainable golf course design."
John Failla, Founder Golf Sustainability
-
"In carving this course out of a bland barley field, Dana Fry ran the risk of producing golf’s equivalent of a game of Checkers. But his brilliant bunker placement and green contours elevate Arcadia Bluffs South to a game of three-dimension Chess."
Ron Whitten, Golf Digest
Recent news about Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design and the golf courses we have designed
Sawgrass Country Club will undergo $55 million in capital improvements under a plan approved by the club’s membership, according to an Oct. 22 news release.
The release said the plan will fund a 7,347-square-foot fitness center expansion, an updated Beach Club Pavilion and dining area, a refreshed Tennis Pavilion, 13 new tennis courts and a 27-hole golf course renovation led by architects Dana Fry and Jason Straka.
Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design completed a hybrid renovation and restoration of the West Course at Belleair Country Club. This project has successfully brought the course back to its historic brilliance while thoughtfully integrating modern design features.
Hear more about this transformation from club member and founder of the Society of Golf Historians, Connor T. Lewis. As a well-traveled golfer with an extensive appreciation for the world's finest golf course architecture, Connor discusses everything from the club's rich history, including its Donald Ross designed golf courses, to the specific design elements of the West Course and the overall property.
Welcome to the Golfweek’s Best 2025 ranking of the top par-3, short and non-traditional private golf courses in the United States. To acknowledge a recent and rapid rise in short courses, Golfweek’s Best introduced a ranking of these layouts in 2023. In 2024 we broke the category into two: public-access courses and private layouts.
Basically, they all fit the bill of not being a traditional-length, traditional-par course. And just like the best short courses, we threw out some of the rules used for rating traditional courses and asked our raters to submit one overall score for each course based on how much they enjoyed the design and the environment. Those individual ratings were then combined to form one average rating. Each course had to receive a minimum number of 10 votes.
The development of Plover Cove Golf Club in Hong Kong – which is due to open in 2027 – took a major step forward this month with the completion of a 1.5km retaining wall around the 53-hectare site in Shuen Wan.
The Plover Cove project is being developed in collaboration with Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design, agronomy and sustainability consultants Turfgrass, and Flagstick Golf Course Construction Management.
The landmark development will transform a restored landfill site into a 6,600-yard, par-71 championship course, complete with luxury clubhouse and other leisure facilities, at a projected cost of $4.5 billion HKD ($600m US).
